By Christina Potter

A health care facility that offers patients treatment and has specialized personnel and equipment is known as a hospital Las Vegas. The funding of these institutions come from sources that include health insurance companies, charities, health organizations or the public sector. In the beginning these facilities were founded and funded by leaders or individuals that were charitable or religious orders. Hospital work was performed by volunteers or religious orders that founded them though things have changed today because hospitals are now run by professional physicians, nurses and surgeons.

Hospitals receive outpatients who come for diagnosis, therapy or treatment and then take their leave. Others stay overnight or much longer after being admitted and these are called inpatients. This is what distinguishes hospitals from other medical facilities. The difference being hospitals can admit patients and take care of them over a period of time but other facilities do not have this capability hence are known as clinics.

Hospitals may be just one building or a number of them on a campus. Those that were founded before the 20th century started as a single building before evolving into campuses. Some are affiliated with universities for the purpose of medial research and also to train medical personnel like nurses and physicians. Charities or governments worldwide run hospitals on a nonprofit basis.

Teaching hospitals combine nurses and medical students training with patient assistance and these facilities a often affiliated to medical or nursing schools or universities. The term clinic refers to a facility much smaller than a hospital and run by a government agency or a private physicians partnership. A clinic only attends to outpatients.
